About The Smith EMBA Program
THE BEST MINDS IN THE WORLD
Ranked No. 2 in the world by The Economist, Smith faculty develop the management techniques that influence and shape global business practice and public policy. Many consult with the world’s leading corporations and have significant international expertise. They bring that experience into the classroom and put proven concepts into real-world context, providing an Executive MBA
experience few business schools can match.
LET SMITH POWER YOUR GROWTH
Even before you start class, you’ll begin the executive assessment process, which identifies both your strengths and your areas for improvement.

The data gathered in this process is then used to pair you with an executive coach, who works closely with you throughout the entire program. This leadership development process is among the most robust in the world, and truly sets the Smith School apart.
A CONNECTED COMMUNITY OF LEADERS
With over 6,000 Chinese alumni and 60,000 alumni worldwide, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has one of the most powerful networks of business leaders in the world. Whether you need industry connections or a mentor to share career insights, Smith students and alumni love to support each other.
BECOME A COMPLETE LEADER
Rigor and balance are the main drivers of the Executive MBA curriculum. Rigor stems from traditionally demanding core courses — taught from an executive perspective — that make up the foundation of business practice. Balance is achieved through carefully selected mastery sessions, which are supplemental seminars that provide cross-functional perspectives drawn from organizational and social theories.

The program taught by experts in their respective fields, mastery sessions include such topics as developing high-performance teams, managing conflict and creative problem-solving. This approach results in not only a balanced perspective, but a balanced workload.

The quality of the University of Maryland's Executive MBA program is among the best. As a student, I learned from experienced professors who are leaders in their field, worked with a cohort of engaged and driven students, and-perhaps the most valuable-I learned in a dynamic and international classroom setting.

By taking this journey, it has led me to think more strategically and has enhanced my life both professionally and personally.

Graduating from the Executive MBA program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business has enhanced my career over the last 10 years. It enabled me to experience top-quality Executive MBA teaching form a US institution and to acquire a comprehensive understanding of corporate control and business development.

Because the program is delivered solely in English, it enhanced my overall business communication skills and my ability to conduct international business.

Applicants are required to hold at least a 4-year Bachelor degree with minimum of a 3.0 GPA, and between eight and twenty years of professional experience and significant management experience with demonstrated English proficiency. Each candidate will be reviewed as a unique individual and the sum of his or her experiences evaluated during the admissions process.

    • Who in my company should I talk to about sponsoring me?
Choosing to take part in an Executive MBA program is about your own personal growth, as well as how your participation can help the company grow. Seek out support at the highest levels – not just your immediate supervisor – and be ready to point out the extra benefits of the Smith Executive Program, specifically the Action Learning Project.
    • How do I explain the program benefits to my company?
While most executive education programs talk about students being able to immediately apply newfound knowledge to workplace situations, Smith makes such a connection even more immediate and relevant. From the start, the Action Learning Project allows participants to tackle a real time issue facing their company as part of their coursework. The company will have a team of Executive MBA students and Smith faculty applying knowledge and manpower to company issues. This is more than just an immediate return on investment from the sponsored employee – the company is essentially receiving full-blown consulting services at a minimal price. In addition, the Mastery coursework will have an immediate impact on your managerial and leadership skills.
